Artificial intelligence warning: AI will know us better than we know ourselves – IAM Network

#artificialintelligence

AI, the term which essentially allows robots to teach themselves, will go against all of western society's ideologies and is a dream for a totalitarian, a leading scientist has warned. Governments which become armed with AI will be able to monitor its population fully and use algorithms to predict, and ultimately tell people, what they want.Machine learning algorithms are already used by big tech companies, who can then sell this on to third parties. When governments fully adopt this, it will be the end of western ideologies, according to Simon McCarthy-Jones, associate professor in clinical psychology and neuropsychology at Trinity College Dublin.Mr McCarthy-Jones wrote: "Individualistic western societies are built on the idea that no one knows our thoughts, desires or joys better than we do."And It will know us better than we know ourselves.

Artificial intelligence warning: AI will know us better than we know ourselves

#artificialintelligence

Mr McCarthy-Jones believes the best way to protect ourself from an AI-led totalitarian future is to not be so open about our private lives on social media. This way, the scientist argues, machine learning algorithms will not be able to predict, and thus tell us, what we want. He continued in The Conversation: "Today, AI can predict what films we will like, what news we will want to read, and who we will want to friend on Facebook. It can predict whether couples will stay together and if we will attempt suicide. "From our Facebook likes, AI can predict our religious and political views, personality, intelligence, drug use and happiness.

Artificial intelligence warning: Development of AI is comparable to nuclear bomb

#artificialintelligence

Theoretically, AI could keep reprogramming and upgrading itself without human interference until it becomes more intelligent than us. At that point, experts warn, it could view humanity as a hinderance – and will use its intelligence to replace us at the top. Ultimately, the smarter AI becomes, the easier it will be able to develop itself until its growth massively outpaces humanity's.

Artificial intelligence warning: AI deemed 'too dangerous' released into the world

Such misuses would require the public to become more critical about the text they consume, which could have been generated by artificial intelligence, they said. The researcher wrote: "These findings, combined with earlier results on synthetic imagery, audio, and video, imply that technologies are reducing the cost of generating fake content and waging disinformation campaigns. "The public at large will need to become more skeptical of text they find online, just as the'deep fakes' phenomenon calls for more skepticism about images."

Artificial Intelligence WARNING: AI 'capable predicting and manipulating YOUR future'

"Thus, quantifying the predictive information contained within a user's text allows us to understand the potential accuracy such methods can potentially achieve given a user's data." Computers looked at users' past writings and categorised them based on the contents of the tweets. They showed that users typically only wrote between 45 and 256 different words when composing tweets. This limited range makes it relatively easy to predict words other users are likely to write.

Why Elon Musk might be right about his artificial intelligence warnings

#artificialintelligence

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly said society needs to be more concerned about safety with the increased use of artificial intelligence. "If you're not concerned about AI safety, you should be," Musk recently tweeted. Jenny Dearborn, chief learning officer at software solutions company SAP, agrees. In fact, she says it's critical to educate ourselves on artificial intelligence and how to best use it. "Artificial intelligence will be everywhere," she tells CNBC Make It. "It will be the most prevalent aspect of our society that won't be visibly seen. But it will be behind everything."
